What causes Excessive Sweating?
Excessive underarm sweating, known medically as Hyperhidrosis, is a condition where the sweat glands become overactive, producing more sweat than is needed to regulate body temperature.
It can affect daily life, confidence and comfort, often leading to visible sweat patches, clothing changes and social self-consciousness.
Sweating is controlled by the sympathetic nervous system, which stimulates sweat glands to release moisture.
In hyperhidrosis, these signals become overactive, causing the sweat glands in areas such as the underarms to produce excessive sweat, even when you are not hot or exercising.
Triggers can include
Stress or emotional stimuli
Heat or physical activity
Hormonal changes
Genetic predisposition
Overactive thyroid
What results you can expect
Botulinum toxin works by temporarily blocking the nerve signals that activate your sweat glands.
Normally, your nervous system stimulates these glands to produce sweat when your body temperature rises as a natural cooling mechanism. In axillary hyperhidrosis, however, these nerve signals are overactive, leading to excessive sweating.
When botulinum toxin is carefully administered into the underarm area, it reduces the activity of these overactive nerves, meaning the sweat glands are no longer stimulated to produce excess sweat.
As a result, you will notice:
A significant reduction in underarm sweating
Improved comfort and confidence
Ability to wear clothing more freely
Long-lasting dryness in the treated area for up to 6 months
